A circus group called Amoukanama is auditioning for America’s Got Talent Season 17 this week. The act features acrobats from the African country of Guinea, with a connection to Belgium. The group’s website describes them as a “circus connecting Europa and Africa.”
Amoukanama Circus Started in Conakry, Guinea
The roots of Amoukanama are in Conakry, Guinea. Alseny Sacko was part of an acrobatic group in the Matam neighborhood and continued to pursue circus performing. He met Belgian performer Nathalie Vandenabeele, and according to the group’s website, “several months of training with them resulted in the birth of Amoukanama.”
The act also has Facinet Camara to thank as a coach and trainer of the acrobats, as well as Ballamoussa Bangoura, who is “one of the foundation members of acrobat groups in Conakry.”
Recently, the group has started working with director and choreographer Anthony Weiss on a production called “FA.” Earlier this month, they performed at the Summer of Antwerp Festival in Belgium. Online videos of Amoukanama show the members’ incredible talent for acrobatics, gymnastics, and balancing.

The Group Is Auditioning for America’s Got Talent Season 17
Earlier this year, Amoukanama shared the news that they auditioned for America’s Got Talent Season 17. At the time, they described it as a “crazy journey” that started last November. They added that they “worked hard to get all the way to Los Angeles to audition.”
The group is also working to build a professional circus school in Conakry, Guinea, modeled after the National Circus School in Montreal and offering a three-year program. They’ve also been filmed for a documentary called Fantastique and are working on building a mobile theater to take their act on tour.
We’re excited to see Amoukanama’s performance on AGT this Tuesday night on NBC, and to find out what the judges think of their act. You can also follow the group on Instagram to keep up with their journey.
