Anthony Anderson’s mother, Doris Bowman, is more than just his parent – she’s also his friend, travel buddy, and now TV co-host. The close mother-son duo have collaborated on various projects throughout the years.

Doris Bowman Was an Aspiring Actress

Bowman was born in Los Angeles and dreamed of being an actress from a young age. However, at 17 she became pregnant with Anderson and decided to put her career ambitions aside to focus on raising him.

She worked as a telephone operator while Anderson’s stepfather, Sterling Bowman, ran a chain of clothing stores. In addition to Anderson, Bowman also raised his younger half-brother Derrick Bowman.

Though she gave up her acting goals early on, Bowman helped pave the way for her son’s future stardom. Anderson has credited his mother for always supporting his passions.

“She put her dreams of being an actor on hold to raise an actor, not knowing that’s what she was doing,” Anderson said.

Bowman doesn’t regret her choice, seeing the wonderful life it allowed her son to have. However, Anderson is now happy to share the spotlight with the woman who gave so much for him.

Joining Anderson On Screen

Once Anderson established himself as an acclaimed actor, he was able to give his mom the chance to also fulfill her acting aspirations.

Bowman began occasionally appearing on shows alongside her son. She’s been on episodes of To Tell the Truth, black-ish, and Celebrity Family Feud over the years.

In 2023, Anderson and Bowman took their on-screen collaboration to new heights by starring in the E! travel series Trippin’ with Anthony Anderson and Mama Doris. The show followed their hilarious adventures across Europe.

Co-Hosting We Are Family

Anderson’s latest project with his mother is hosting the FOX game show We Are Family together. The comedic actors are a natural fit for the family-centric series.

In a statement, Anderson said, “I jumped at the opportunity to host We Are Family and can’t wait for you to see all the celebrities, their relatives, and the many surprises we have in store this season.”

The show premiered in January 2024, once again proving this mother-son duo works seamlessly together on camera. Fans love Bowman’s vivacious, unfiltered personality.

Not Afraid to Say She’s Proud of Her Son

Bowman has endlessly supported her son’s acting career and been by his side during major milestones. No doubt, these collaborators will find more exciting projects to team up on in the future.

She joined Anderson at the 2023 Emmy Awards where he was hosting. Bowman popped up hilariously throughout the ceremony, playfully telling winners their speeches were running long.

According to Anderson, his mom is always bragging about her famous child to anyone who will listen. Their heartwarming bond is evident to all. Anderson and his spirited mother Bowman clearly share an unbreakable bond. Fans love seeing their endearing rapport translate on screen.
