Country star and former The Voice guest coach Kelsea Ballerini recently opened up about her recent divorce from husband Morgan Evans after almost five years of marriage. Ballerini said it would have been “such a disservice” to stay in the marriage.
Kelsea Ballerini Opens Up About Divorce
In August, Ballerini filed for divorce from Evans, whom she married in December 2017. In an Instagram message to fans at the time, Ballerini called it a “deeply difficult decision.” Two months later, the couple reached a settlement, and the divorce was finalized on November 15.
Recently, Ballerini opened up about the divorce on the podcast Tell Me About It With Jade Iovine. According to People, the singer said she initially thought she had reached “a new phase of a relationship.” She added, “For a long time, I was like, ‘Oh this is just… The glitter wears off. That’s what happens.’ And then you get into a phase where you wait for it to come back. And then sometimes it doesn’t.”
Ballerini acknowledged that “divorce is a bitch,” but she also shared her belief that it would be “such a disservice and a dishonoring of yourself if you know something is not right and you stay.” The star added that she refuses to feel shame, adding, “Judge me for it, fine, that’s on you.”
Since the split, Ballerini hasn’t been alone. A friend moved in with her shortly afterward, and then she went on tour. She said she’s “had my people really rally for me and I’m not ready to be alone yet.”

The Singer Finalized Divorce on Grammy Nom Day
In November, Kelsea Ballerini revealed that she finalized her divorce from Morgan Evans on November 15, the same day she was nominated for a Grammy Award for Country Solo Performance for her song “Heartfirst.” Later that day, she appeared at the Grand Ole Opry.
“The truth is that this morning I started my day at the courthouse finalizing my divorce and then getting nominated for a Grammy, and then getting the keys to my dream home, and now standing in the circle of the Opry,” Ballerini said during her Opry appearance. “And sh*t, if that ain’t country music, I don’t know what is.”
In September, Ballerini released her fourth studio album, titled Subject to Change. She embarked on her Heartfirst Tour of the United States in the same month, and she’ll be playing shows in the UK starting in February.
