HotScots' Story | Scotland.org
I play left midfield for Hot Scots FC. We are an LGBT friendly football club based in Edinburgh. I think Scotland's made it possible for Hot Scots to exist because people are
open to change and people are quite progressive in Scotland. Most of the 40 club members are gay men but we do have transgender members, we've got bisexual members, lesbian members and we have straight members as well – there is no restriction on who can play for the Hot Scots.
We want to break down the barriers between LGBT people and mainstream football, so anybody is welcome to join. We play against teams in Edinburgh and internationally and kind of celebrate that diversity in football in every game that we play. I think the social aspect of the team is really important for everyone. Most of the people have come from the same place and have been on the same journey, despite everyone also having their own story, and their unique experiences as well, so I think I've seen a lot of change since I joined the club - breaking the barriers between LGBT people and the rest of society but also ensuring that every part of the L.G.B.T. is included and represented in the club.
I think Scotland is at the forefront of gay rights in Europe one thing that we have in common and where we've come from where we can now be is completely open completely comfortable with our sexuality in modern-day Scotland.
